Alien Skin Snap Art 3

It’s been quite a while since we had an outdoor trip (hence, new photographs to edit and share) so I tried a lightroom plugin, Alien Skin Snap Art 3.  Basically, the program turns your photograph to paintings of various styles (paint, oil, watercolors, pencil and ink, etc.).  My favorite is the oil paint and here are the samples.

What I observed is that a bad photograph will still look bad if converted using the plugin (garbage in, garbage out) as the composition will not be improved.

The plugin (which opens to a stand alone program) has several sliders, including photorealism, which determines how close the edited photograph is to an actual photograph (as opposed to a painting).  Here is a sample.  I chose a highly photorealistic one and it doesn’t do much to change the picture (it’s as if only the texture of the canvas was added).

A very nice plugin that should be used sparingly, otherwise it becomes boring.  Also, not to be used as a crutch for a bad photography.
