Cellphone Pictures

I’ve always had aversion to pictures taken with cellphones.  The pictures look good on the cellphone screen but looks horrible on computer screen.

Eversince the Instagram craze, I’ve started taking more pictures with my cellphone.  (I’ve tried Instagram once and thought that it is just filter gimmick).  My phone is a Motorola Defy+ (splash-proof after my Samsung Galaxy SII broke due to water seeping in).  It only has a 5 megapixel camera with poor dynamic range and poor low-light capabilities.  The lens is fixed to I think about 28mm in full frame equivalent and zooming is digital so a no-no.  However, understanding these weaknesses and compensating for it (shoot in bright light) goes a long way.

Here are two pictures I took near my office.  The first one is unedited while the second one, I cropped and increased contrast using the cellphone camera’s tools.  I’d say not bad.

  1. It’s pretty impressive what a camera phone can do these days.
